|BRAZIL| Mutation of Tapir is discovered in Brazil!

by Luiz Bispo | 17-08-2015 13:18

What kinds of animal do you like? I am lucky to live in Brazil because I have many opportunities to see various animals, which are discovered only in Brazil. In particular, there is unique animal named Tapir that usually live in Central and South America. They look like pig but have trunk which plays a role in grabbing braches or tastes fruit like elephants. Interestingly, they are related to horse.

There are five species of tapirs one of them is the Brazilian tapir. They are found near water and good swimmer. The height is about 2m and dark brown in color. In addition to that, they are active at night while spending their day time on resting among thick vegetation.

However, one photographer in Brazil discovered the very rare Albino Tapir in a protected area of southeastern Brazil's Atlantic rain forest. This tapir have lack of pigments and white fur and pink eyes.

This surprising discovery has a further significance. The number of tapirs has decreased dramatically by hunting and deforestation. Especially, in Brazil, 85% of the Atlantic rain forest has been damaged. Therefore, finding the different kinds of tapirs are meaningful in threaten conditions.

The existence of tapir is also important in the forest ecosystem. They are well known for dropping their seeds to deposit by roaming the areas.

The photographer who took this mutation said,

"The threatened Atlantic Forest can still hold many surprises for science"

He is right. Even though a lot of animals have been threatened and environment has been suffering from human self- interest, we can still find the hope. That?s why we are here and make an effort to improve our property, environment.
