![]() ![]() ![]() Greetings to all ambassadors. I would like to inform you all of, not recent, but important event that occurred four months ago. About a year ago, my first article that I have uploaded to this platform was about our vermicomposting project. Ever since my friends and I have been pursuing to go global about this vermicomposting project of ours and we did by meeting Paul Ritter and his daughter Baylee in UNEP TUNZA Conference 2014. Our friends we made who were from the USA started our project back in their home and last year we invited them to our school under the name of ISAF (International Science and Art Festival) where we exchanged information about each other's projects, our project being vermicomposting and theirs being P2D2, which I have explained in detail in another article. I have also written another article concerning ISAF that we have organized back in Turkey. And finally our friends in the USA invited us to come over their home to both show their culture and how they progressed in their project step by step. As such, for a week in April (from 18th to 25th) we had stayed in Pontiac, Illinois with host families that our friends found for us. We went there with a group of 16 people, 3 of them being teachers and 13 students representing our school, Fen Bilimleri High School, our country and of course our vermicomposting project. The first day, we only met with our host families and spent time with them. One thing I forgot to mention is that our friends in the USA had registered our project in a competition without our knowledge. As such, we were given the honor of having the ?Most Creative Project? in the Clean Water Celebration that Sun Foundation organized. This celebration had more than 100 schools participating, from primary schools to high schools and we were the only group to participate in this event from a foreign country. The second day, we prepared for the Clean Water Celebration and worked on our presentation that we were going to do in that event. We also helped out our friends who were going to participate in the event tomorrow. The third day was the event's day. It was quite scary to stand at the stage against all those people while waiting to be called out for our prize. We managed somehow. After that, we had the opportunity to present our project and country to some schools. We also listened to other schools' presentations. That day was a long and hard day, but I believe that we raised the awareness of some people at the Clean Water Celebration. The fourth day we got to see the Pontiac Township High school. We attended some classes, but most importantly we got to present our project to all of High school. We also made a presentation about our country and culture to both High school and primary school. The last three days were, well, full of sightseeing and less work. We went to Chicago and had a sightseeing around Pontiac. We also had the chance to give interviews about our project to the newspaper and rodio which enabled us to reach even more people. We estimate that we reached about 5,000 people in total. In other words, this journey to the USA started with lots of work and commitment, but we got our reward as well. This was a both fun and informing trip at the same time. The most important thing is we achieved our goal of finally spreading our project in a global bases. |
