by Luiz Bispo | 06-08-2015 12:00

Recently, a rare female deer disappeared from Sao Paulo State University located in Jaboticabal city. The species is called "Veado Campeiro" (Ozotoceros bezoarticus) and it was the only one in captivity along Brazil.

The animal was being used for reproduction within a research in the university. The hypothesis about the occasion is that the species was released or robbed by someone. Nevertheless, there is a campaign organized by the local community and scientists to find the animal.

The species was already considered endangered but currently its risk of extinction is lower than before. The "Veado Campeiro" was under investigation and treatment. The individual was pregnant. Therefore, it was under severe observation.

People believe that perhaps the robbers did not want to thief the specie but instead pesticides. During the thief action the animal may have been released.

By the way, there is no sign of confront and blood in the place. So, probably, it was not killed and is alive.

A specialist explains that the animal is quite docile and can be in touch with humans. However, there is a risk. Whether the animal has been eaten for someone, the person can be in danger to lose the life.

The expectation is that the animal is alive due to the fact that it is a life in the Earth and it has got essential significance in research field to protect species to be in risk of extinction.
