by Luiz Bispo | 04-08-2015 14:21

Do you know how cave could be created? It has usually been made of natural process. I sometimes visited few caves for a tour and I used to be impressed by beautiful interior over the a thousand years. However there is more interested news about cave made by animals in Brazil.

Paleotocas, that is a giant cave excavated by an extinct animal such as sloths and armadillos , was found in Ponta Abuna in Rondonia. The geologist believes that there is fossil in the cave can prove the giant sloth excavates the cave. Interestingly, in the beginning, residents thought the cave made by the human hands,

This cave advent in Amazon region shows that the climate of Pleistocene period and type of these animal's life. Fortunately , it is very well preserved. It is presumed that the size of giant sloth range up to 6meters and weight around a ton and a half. According to the geologist, there was no forest at the time where the caves were made even though it is very difficult to access to entrance of cave due to trees. The region was a savanna inhabited by giant animals such as mastodontes , alligators and the sloths and colder and dryer, which is opposite climate, hot and humid in Amazon rainforest at present.

In Brazil, the geologists put an effort to raise awareness of the project, Researchers from Geodiversidade Rondonia (GD-RO), which find the geological sites to use them as tourist attraction. The Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRS) and the Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp) with geologist made a team and explored the sites to confirm of animals and to figure out the length of caves.

Researchers said that there are the huge number of paleotocas in the Rio Grande do Sul. On average, the tunnels have 4meters in widths, 2meters in height and about 200meters are stretched. The cave found in Morro Grande, Santa Catarina have 150meters with 1.5meter in diameter and have 4floors. Furthermore, 8 exits are existed,

I think that discovering these kinds of caves is useful not only for sightseeing but also for studying for environment, which could be source to keep our present environment. It is surprised news that we can meet the extinct animals and their home from caves.
