Sapporo Summer Fire Festival

In the previous article, I was writing about Sapporo Citizen Disaster Prevention Center (https://tunza.eco-generation.org/ambassadorReportView.jsp?viewID=12373&searchType=name&searchName=mukhlish&pageNumber=1). Building that Disaster Prevention Center is not enough for Sapporo City Government to prevent disaster. Because disaster because part of Japan people life, it becomes really urgent to be learnt. Sometimes, there are fire, earthquake, or typhoon and the only one thing to make people can face it is by preparing for the disaster.

So, Sapporo Fire Bureau and Sapporo City Government held annual events, namely Fire Summer Festival, and in this year, it had been held at 26 July 2015 in the street nearby heart of Sapporo city. They closed a street for couple of hours so all people who were there can join this festival freely. The main target of this event was children, but adults are also welcomed to join.

In this event, there were some stands, such as smoke simulation in the artificial smoked room. Then, there was AED free trial so all people can be able to handle first aid in the emergency. Many kids also tried to turn off fire using water hose by fire brigade guidance. In the emergency, they also introduced what kind of stuffs that we should prepare, such as food, flashlight, etc and all of them were packed in an emergency pack. One interesting stand was trying to go 20 meters up by using fire brigade car so we can understand how their feeling when they try to turn off fire in the high place. Then I realized, fire brigades are brave people and not all people can be like them.

Even it just a simple event, but people attention was good and they introduced many should be prepared things for disaster.  Sapporo City government try many kind of efforts to let their people well prepared to disaster. And in my opinion, preventing is better than curing so I hope this kind of efforts can be applied everywhere and we can minimalize impact of disaster itself.
