[February Free Report][A low carbon lifestyle]

by Vivian Nabisere | 28-02-2023 17:48

A low carbon lifestyle

Greenhouse gases including carrbon dioxide contribute highly to climate change. For example, carbon dioxide is responsible for 53% of the level of global warming. (Acciona, 2019)

Major reductions in emissions require substantial changes to various patterns of consumption and behaviours. One of the ways to do this is through practicing a zero carbon lifestyle. This is a low-carbon way of life that reduces greenhouse gases and saves resources.
We can practice it through:

1. Sufficiency: Eating only what is needed and food waste reduction.
2. Household use of grid-based and on-site renewable electricity and heat pumps with district heating and cooling, combining both heat and power.
3. Reducing car use and increased public transport and active travel such as bicycle and walking.
4. Checking and buying better energy efficiency of appliances and heat pumps with better insulation and construction.
5. Proper disposal of waste through proper use of dustbins. ( Chapstick et al., 2020)
