This year, the United Nations has announced the 21st June as the International Day of Yoga. Yoga, which was introduced back in India, is an extremely engaging activity according to me. It keeps you fit, light and rejuvenated. Last month, I talked about how being healthy benefits the environment. In short, if you try to be healthy, and you walk/cycle instead of driving, you are burning less fossil fuels. So, being fit also means being sustainable! That is why I feel that Yoga helps you to be eco-friendly. It also gives you a feeling of peace, harmony, rejuvenation and relaxation. In Dubai, the International Day of Yoga was celebrated not only on June 21st, but also on June 12th. I attended both these events held at various locations. On June 12th, it was held at the Zabeel Park in Dubai and saw over 3000 participants joining in to do a lot of yoga. The Consul General of India, HE Anurag Bhushan was present at the venue. This event was organized by Friends of Yoga (FOY). It was a very well-organised event and executed quite well. I also gave an interview on TV, the link of which can be seen here: (I am featured at 3:18): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06-4oDGUrjA On June 21st, it was held at an extremely large scale as it was the main event with more than 17,000 participants, held at a massive Football Stadium in Dubai. Free Yoga Mats, Water Bottles and Towels were distributed to all the participants. The Chief Guest was Mary Kom, the internationally renowned boxer, who came to grace the occasion. It was a really exhilarating experience as we celebrated the 1st International Day of Yoga. I hope that from now on, all my friends are keen to practice yoga at any time they feel free for a healthy body, mind and soul. And remember, a healthy body means an active body, and an active body means a healthy environment! |
