NATURE ALERT Until today, the EU is a pioneer in environmental protection. Today, however, there is a serious risk that the environmental legislation of the European union will become less protective for the natural environment. The most important directives are the one for the protection of birds and the one for the protection of natural habitats. These directives have significantly protected the biodiversity in Europe and many endangered species have begun to have a positive growth rate. In Greece, the characterization of areas as NATURA 2000 has prevented unrestrained development and has helped environmentally aware people are groups to protect them. As a result, coastal wetlands, dunes, caves and ravines that characterize the Greek environment have been protected. At the same time, animals such as the Bear of Pindos mountain and Caretta-caretta turtles have found space to live and reproduce, way from disturbing human presence. Recently, the European Commission has started the restatement of specific guidance to improve the so-called "Environmental Bureaucracy". However, currently, because of the economic crisis, the timing is particularly inconvenient for the environment. As a result, there is a serious risk of weakening the directives and introducing aberrations that will allow their detour. The European Commission has launched a public consultation asking the opinion of citizens, experts and professionals on Nature. The consultation ends on July 24, 2015 and it is important that maximum participation of citizens and sensitized people to environment protection will take place. The participation may be made by an electronic questionnaire in https://www.naturealert.eu/en
