The green school!

by | 20-07-2015 22:15

I'm at my new school! It has been a busy months! The school put us into 4 camps so far and including a midterm exam in between. I decided to major in science and math! It's a difficult path but it can provide more choices for university since I love biology It's called Sriboonyanon school and it's near my house so I will have more time left from staying in car due to the traffic. So, at my new school, the teachers here are very concerned toward the environmental issues. I have surveyed the school area and I've found several spots that is impressing and show that they put the environmental issues first.

Sriboonyanon is the first school in my province. I'm in gifted program for math an science. It's near my house so there's no more problem of traffic jam. It is the school of Nonthaburi province. It's also notified for being member of the STEM education plan and Green school group. In my opinion, schools are the best place for children to learn about environment. With all the teachers and facilities, it's easier to spread the green virus in large scales. These are some Green-facts about my new school,

1. The butterfly pea gate: I saw butterfly pea plants growing in several pots. (Butterfly pea is the plant with blue flower. It flower, when extracted, can give out blue juice that we can either drink or use it to regrow hair and eyebrows.) I asked the former students about it. They said that it was their last year project. Teacher assigned them to plant the butterfly pea as their final project. They also said that the real aim of the teacher is to make the school ?Go Green?. In my opinion, this is a very thoughtful lesson beneficial both to the students and the world.

2. The recycle bank: There's a campaign of the government that consist of buying recyclable products. The school works with government to have the students bring the used products that can be recycled. For example, PET bottle, Plastic container, eggs container etc. In return, the government will pay for the products. This campaign is for the students to start saving money and start saving the world at the same time.

3. The recycle bin: The recycle bin can be notified clearly because it's large. The students will learn to separate the recyclable trash into the separated bin. The school can later sell those products to the government and earn money. It's a very good way to manage the bottles and don't just let them go wasted.

4. There's a room called ?Green Room? that my friends told me that inside, shows the events caused by the greenhouse gases. For example, polar bear facing the iceberg melting problem. This shows that this school indeed is a green school. Youths should be taught about environmental awareness in order to spread the Green ideas.

5. The papers we use are all the recycled paper. It's good for the environment and also for our eyes. The paper is light gray colored and it make less contrast between the texture and the black alphabets. Sometimes, the teachers reuse papers so they can use both pages fully. I think it's beneficial both towards our eyes and environment.

6. The students here come to school by bus. This lessens the use of private car, reducing the emissions of greenhouse gas. The new route to the school was constructed a short while ago. The traffic also has gotten better with the new route available. Traffic jam is a major cause of global warming.

7. There are lots of signs telling student to separate the trash, don't litter, finish the food, and so on. These sign would remind students about what they should or should not do.

8. We bring our own lunch to school. This creates less problem for food waste and foam or plastic container littering. Also, the seniors are collecting water bottles to recycle as the instruments for the upcoming sport day! They are trying to waste the resource as little as possible. If the teachers see anyone littering, they will tell that student to do clean up immediately or sometimes pick up the trash themselves. They're so eco-friendly.

In my opinion, school is a very influential factor for students. School forge students into who they are. They can influence thousands of youths at once. They create a very large part of this society. If every schools keep up good job in teaching the right things for their students in the first place, the next generation will surely be the green generation or eco-generation. Hope you guys like my article about my new school! Let me know if your schools have similar policy.
