National Day Speech by President James Alix Michel

by | 10-07-2015 00:59

On the 29th of June, we celebrate our National Day, which was originally celebrated on the 18th June. It is the day that the Seychelles became an independent state - as always, the President will address the public.

This year, he said that tourism and fisheries has been the principal pillars of our economy for a long time and has generated employment, investment and improved our GDP, he continued by saying that small businesses will now be able to have greater access to credit and benefit from subsidies by the Government and will be issued their license under a period of a week - this was great for the businesses.

He also mentioned that retirement pensions will increase increase by 500 Seychelles Rupees per month - because they're have been great complaints that the amount given to them, is not enough for a month.
In addition, he spoke about providing additional support to the day care centres which will help mothers who are more vulnerable - this again, is a great thing for the society.

The great news are:

Mr. James Alix Michel, encouraged families to install solar panels on their houses and businesses - he added that by next year the Government of Seychelles, will be subsidizing the installation of solar panels for the families (that meets certain criteria).

The other great news was, by the 15th of July 2015, duty on all electric vehicles will be abolished! Duty on hybrid vehicle will be reduced by 5% to help promote the policy of clean and renewable energy.

To conclude, he mentioned that there will be no hotel construction at Cap Ternay but the area will be used for research by the University of Seychelles students.
