|BRAZIL| Environmental License

by Luiz Bispo | 27-06-2015 10:47

There are many kinds of licenses that we might know already. Most of my age group already has driver?s license and some of them are interested in licenses to show their career. Here I would like to introduce an attractive one to Tunza Ambassadors about an environmental license in Brazil.

The companies which have a potential to harm environment should take an environmental licensing in advance. The municipal, state and federal governments have a responsibility of the law related to this license and share the obligation with the State Agencies for Environment, IBAMA (Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Natural Resources) and SISNAMA (National Environment).

Usually, the state environmental agency is in charge of evaluating the enterprises. This organization research whether they might harm environment and what kinds of pollution or risk that they might generate. Once the license is made, then it affects the certain legal condition, which encourages the companies to care environment. If the entrepreneur has as changes, they should go through the new licensing operating with an advice from environmental agency of the state.

The companies should prepare the environmental study and impact report (EIS/EIR), which should include the technical and scientific document, for IBAMA to get permission and review. During this process IBAMA discuss about the possibility of impact to communities with environmental agencies, institutions and historical heritage management entities.

There are three steps to receive the environmental licenses Previous License, Installation License, Operating License. Its step has the guidance to follow. When I read this article, I assume that the process to get the proper license could be so complicated. However, to have this kind of obligation for companies will have a positive effect on protecting environment efficiently.
