Recycle-Thon II: for Humble Service of Mother Earth

by Rohan Kapur | 27-06-2015 21:22

In continuation of my earlier initiative of conducting a Recycle-Thon on the valentine?s Day [14-Feb-15] and inspired by the immense success of this maiden initiative of conducting this event and to show my indelible care for my mother earth & its fragile environment I decided to conduct Recycle-Thon II on the 13th June at the Earthos café-Indian Exhibition Centre, Sharjah.

?There is no such thing as ?Away?. When we throw anything away, it must go somewhere.?  Keeping this quote in mind and celebrating World Environment Day 2015, Serve The Earth-An initiative for Mother Earth, conducted Recycle-Thon II. It was conducted in the morning. In this event, various budding environmentalists in Green attire brought in their recyclables, be it paper, plastic or aluminum cans to send them for recycling.

In spite of scorching heat, we had a huge turnout of 45 youngsters who were present with the recyclables. It was quite a diverse crowd. We had kids who were in KG 1 and we had college going students.

In order to acknowledge their efforts , we awarded trophies to top 3 participants in each category. They were not only judged on the amount of recyclables they brought, but they were also judged in various other categories. We had special prizes for those participants. These environmentalists let their love for the environment flow by writing on the Pledge Wall.  We were able to collect a total of 1600kg of Newspaper, 165kg of plastic and 87kg of cans. All these recyclables were sent to Bee?ah. This event was supported by Bee?ah. Every participant went away with a certificate of Appreciation and recognition and a goody bag from Bee?ah. The participants also learnt the importance of recycling and its impact on the mother Earth.

One of the winners of Recycle-thon II in the Newspaper category, Aaliya Burhan who came all the way from Al Ain and collected  360kg of newspaper said ?I collected newspapers not only from my neighborhood but also from the Library and nearby grocery shops as well. ?

First place winner in Plastic and Second Place Aluminum Cans, Anish T Kumbhar said: ?Night before the event, I did not have enough cans, so me and my friends went on a cans hunt and collected all the cans we could find on the street.?

I urge all the budding environmentalists to start Recycling and to stop the use of products which is harming our dear Mother Earth. This event was conducted so as to inject the fact into the participants that ?YOU too can make a difference.? Through the international medium of Tunza Eco-Generation I wish to convey the same. There is no need to wait for someone to give you the push, you need to push yourself and act.

Kind Regards,
