World Environment Celebration: Igniting PN Worth Embracing PN Earth

There?s always a smile painted on my face every time I am doing simple act of kindness to our Mother Earth. Simple act of kindness is usually the best thing you can give and share to other people. I am just so happy that Igniting PN Worth Embracing PN Earth: Eco-notebook Making Initiative was approved by our chairman. PN stands for Project NOWTBUKS: Now is the Time to Build Up Kids for Sustainability.

?Seven billion dreams. One planet. Consume with care.? This is the theme greatly emphasized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) of the Philippines for this month. In line with this, Project NOWTBUKS team is having its eco-notebook making initiative as a simple act in igniting its worth to the kids and further, embracing Mother Earth entitled ?Igniting PN Worth Embracing PN Earth: Eco-notebook Making Initiative?, a sustainable 1-day event in celebration with the World Environment Month.

PN Eco-guards (name of the PN volunteers) had its celebration of World Environment Month thru Igniting PN Worth Embracing PN Earth: Eco-notebook Making Initiative in Talisay City Science High School from 8 am to 12nn last Saturday, June 20, 2015.

Well, there were three main highlight of the event: the Team Building Activity (TBA), Eco-storytelling, and Eco-notebook making workshop where 47 high school student leaders from Grade 7 to Grade 10 were engage to a fun filled avenue for learning and youth empowerment. After the TBA, we had a group realization and sharing of insights. I believe that the team building activity gave the high school student leaders the realization how significant to have initiative, teamwork, and how to deal with limited resources in our society.

We also let the high school student leaders feel the importance of being an environmentally aware youth and being an eco-friendly. In short, we promote Tunza Eco-Generation?s goal: Shaping Eco-Leaders of the Future thru Eco-Storytelling.

After the Eco-storytelling, Project NOWTBUKS (NOW is the Time to Build Up Kids for Sustainability) team engaged the  young minds on how to think, live and stay green inculcating in the youth their vital role in preserving and protecting the environment through simple activity as transforming scrap papers and other materials into utilizable notebooks - the eco-notebooks. After being immersed in understanding their simple yet significant role in contributing to a better world thru recycling, the student leaders were asked to write on a paper what they can do next after the event.  They are made to write in English or in vernacular to help them freely express their learning and promises for a greener environment.

Our team doesn?t want to have a one day event but rather a sustainable one. Currently, PN Ecoguards is still conceptualizing PNAP (Project NOWTBUKS Ambassador Program) to further sustain PN?s vision.
