![]() ![]() ![]() Whenever I walk the street, I felt I?m stifled by smoke from the cars. Actually, in São Paulo, Brazil, 20million commuters suffer from road traffic everyday and city street is filled with about 7 million vehicles. For sure, the number of traffic accidents is high. However, surprisingly, the number of people who die as a result of air pollution in São Paulo is much higher than car accidents does.
I live in São Paulo. As I describe above, the city streets is congested with cars and people. However, today I found the good information to resolve these problems. Have you heard about ?Hybrid bus?? It is powered by electricity and biodiesel, which is able to reduce 90% pollutant emissions and only 35% fuel consumption. Brazil started to operate these buses in 2012.
Curitiba was the first city to produce hybrid buses in Brazil and also São Paulo, my city had 50 models in the beginning. There is special benefit for passengers as well. Users of this bus don?t need to pay extra money for other passages. That is, passengers can use another buses with the transportation card within 2hours for free. But the best benefit from this vehicle is to contribute to better environment such as less pollute, less emit, less smoke and less noise.
In terms of technology, this bus is operating by two motors one is electricity and another is biodiesel. The electricity plays a role in starting the bus and accelerates to about 20 km/h. The biodiesel is used for a higher speeds so if bus does not move due to the traffic light, this engine is turned off.
We can say that this kind of technology is an ideal example of the sustainable solution. In fact, there was the Rio +20 conference of the United Nations (UN) held in Rio de Janeiro to present this technology. I hope that the more eco- friendly technology is developed so that the less damage the environment has. Source: Parana TV |
