The Road to Paris

by | 09-06-2015 09:18

I am most honoured to share this news, about a week ago 88 young people from 23 countries around the world gathered at Tutzing Castle for the Global Youth Summit 2015 as representatives of 3 billion youths on this planet to elaborate on a proposal for solutions to ensure our survival and we sent a message to world leaders that met at G7 summit. The theme of the Global Youth Summit 2015 was "How to keep the 2 degree Celsius goal?"- essential for our survival, we, the participants that came from all the continents of the world spent an inspiring, labour intensive and discussion rich week at the Evangelische Akademie Tutzing developing a manifesto of how world leaders could achieve this goal. At the end of the Summit we had created the Youth Manifesto for the heads of government and started the greatest afforestation project in the history of humankind.
Overwhelmingly enough, don't you just love when the #call4climate Action is answered! well, that's exactly what happened on Monday:

G7 leaders are committed to a goal of limiting the rise in average global temperatures to 2? compared to pre-industrial levels, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said. The Group of Seven wealthy democracies agreed that the world should phase out the use of fossil fuels by the end of this century.

Ms. Merkel said on Monday that the G7 leaders committed themselves to the need to ?decarbonise the global economy in the course of this century.? That is a technical term for ending the use of oil, gas and coal but not nuclear power and replacing them with alternative sources of energy such as wind and solar power. Ms. Merkel had pressed for the G7 to agree on the goal so it can be put forward at a summit on climate change later this year in Paris. Burning carbon-based fuels such as oil and gas releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which is blamed for global warming.

And there we have it, a historic moment. For the very first time in a longtime the candle of hope burns brighter than ever before, our climate justice goals are aligned with G7 so now its bull eye on the road to Paris, it has been paved.
Kudos to all of us for the amazing work we are doing, we have ironclad spirits, we never give up- because we know there is no ending only new beginnings and this here #G7Moment is one to be proud of, cheers to more victories!
