|BRAZIL| Forest of the Future Project

by Luiz Bispo | 07-06-2015 08:40

In 2012 and 2013 gathering with my university colleague Fabiana Bastos I was managing a project named "Forest of the Future" and fortunately it is still ongoing in 2015.

It becomes recognized in our local community of Piracicaba City and also internationally admited. In 2013, due to its positive impact on environmental education, the project was presented in a conference which happened in Moscow (Russia).

Forest of the Future Project has an audience focused on vulnerable children that are in the Pre-operational Stage (Piaget). The first edition of the Project happened in 2008.

The activities are mainly organized into workshops that are focused on symbols, making possible for the children to understand complicated  facts about global importance through an easy way. Therefore, they can absorb ideas and apply into their real life.

There are some activities such as seedlings planting, environmental educational films and four main workshops:"The Bald-Hairy": this has the purpose that children assimilate the basic needs for the development of a plant "Garbaging": teach the garbage separation, and the importance of Reducing, Reusing and Recycling "Forestry Bowling": children learn, dynamically and with group work, the natural components that form an ecosystem "Refuge": Elaborated from a method called Psychodrama (Moreno, J.L.) the children understand the importance of trees for wildlife conservation.

These activities contribute to the understanding about the forest importance, need of forest restoration and the human-nature relationship stimulating a critical thought and the creative capacity of children.
