![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Like many other developing countries across the world , Kenya is vulnerable to climate change this is because at roughly 42% of Kenya's GDP and 70% of overall employment is derived from natural resource-related sectors, including agriculture, mining, forestry, fishing, tourism, water supply and energy. Therefore when fully exploited this natural resources will impact negatively social and environmental development. Increasing population and urbanization is also a concern to the policy makers, the government and other actors since it has led to youth unemployment crisis and environmental degradation. Key messages from the event Don't be included be involved, young people have the advantage of numbers therefore they can cause change in their societies through actions, youths can collaborate and achieve solutions. It was amazing to learn that sometimes it is possible to cause BIG impact even with little resources .One of the participants from the youth network shared how his involvement in environmental conservation has changed his life in terms of creating employment and drug abuse control and rehabilitation. There was evidence of spirit of volunteering from the team mobilization. Part of the day activities was a tree planting session and a clean up exercise , Youths did not mind getting themselves dirty when doing the clean up and planting trees , there was the spirit of teamwork and togetherness . In conclusion we had a session with participants on sexual and reproductive health (important in effort to control Africa growing population) , youths were advised to consider using contraceptives when during their sexual lifestyles for the purposes of family planning . I learnt that it was really important to share this messages since Africa population is projected to double by year 2050 ,therefore controlling population is seen as one way to address less trees on natural resources such as water , land , etc .
