![]() In Brazil, the novel app was created by 23 year old woman, Mariana Vasconcelos. It is a well known fact that Brazil, in some regions, continues to fight a historic drought and people have been suffered from lack of water. In particular, a drought in Brazil has led to a water crisis. Therefore, this technology will play a critical role in a decrease of water consumption.
Mariana had an idea from her father?s ranch and developed this application, Agrosmart, in 2014. Agrosmart has sensor which is able to access to soil moisture and check the pests across the field. The recorded data are interpreted by the application and indicate irrigation interval and time perspective for farmers.
In Brazil, about 70% of water is consumed in agriculture and the National Water Agency (ANA) follows. Mariana expects that the technology will provide a water savings of up to 60% and generate electronic energy savings. In addition to that, this application is expected to increase the productivity.
This application is valuable in that an essential knowledge is delivered to farmers. Mariana has had a constant connection with farmers and has three more partners in the venture and five other employees. Above all, she anticipates that farmers have a better understanding of water amount in irrigation. The Agrosmart is used in two farms of Minas Gerais as a test and is expected to reach other ten farms until July and 35 up to the end of the year.
