![]() Click a tree (Clickarvore) is the program of the SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation (a non-governmental organization to protect the endangered forests and marine environments) in order to restore the forest, which was launched in 2000. This major program is to encourage people to plant new seedlings over the internet and have a wide range of supporters such as NGOs, academia, corporate sponsors, land owners of the Atlantic Forest and mainly, Internet users.
In the beginning, companies supported the seedlings and internet users donated trees by clicking. A millions of internet users have participated in the planting of native species in the Atlantic Forest for 12 years and reached 23 million seedlings donations in 2012. Consequently, this program contributed to the restoration of more than 13 thousand hectares of native forest.
Clickarvore program started to develop the new strategy in 2010. The Internet users allow to click to vote the regions where is supposed to receive the seedlings donation. Thus, each click can define the place that the landowners will plant. After 3 years, the landowners will receive benefits if this promotion brings the good results of biodiversity.
In addition, Click a tree-program is also expected to promote entrepreneurship and create jobs and strengthen a wide range of network to get support for forest restoration. In 2013, this program marked the donation of 1,500,000 seedlings, which led to 900 hectares restoration in different states. |
