A pinch of happiness for the quake victims

by | 15-05-2015 11:51

"I was weak, I was old but you stay strong." It was the caption of the Sundhara photo on the facebook. The picture went viral for some days. The reason was 7.8 magnitude earthquake centered less than 50 miles from Kathmandu which rocked Nepal with the devastating force early Saturday, the 25th April, killing over 7700 people with 16,432 injured & over 500,000 houses destroyed, partially or completely.

The epicenter Gorkha was severely destroyed. The magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck 68 km west of Namche Bazar, Nepal after two weeks nepalquake devastated the country. When the country was in pain, it was our responsibility to act but we need to act wisely.

With the inspiring words of Dr. Hom Bd. Basnet, we were filling with confidence that we can contribute something in our own way.

A journey was started on 28th April towards Gorkha then. Our destiny was Sourpani VDC, Gorkha. After 1 & half day long journey, we arrived there. We distributed 100 tents & some basic medicines for the victims after completing the journey of around 5 hours on foot.

At the early morning of 30th April, the fast food stuffs (noodles, biscuits, etc.), clothes ( which was collected as relief) & remaining medicines was distributed from the base of the hill. As they were invited the day before during our journey to them, it was easy to execute the work & it took about 2 hours. We came back to Bharatpur, Chitwan on the same day.

I can't explain how much satisfaction & pride it gave me after being the part of this relief activity. Those smiles that I saw on the innocent faces was worthless. Gathering some happiness for them was everything for me.

We will fight back & be able to rebuild our beautiful country again.
