Hi eco buddies! I do apologize for being absent for almost two months. There are several circumstances and I know that I should not blame the condition. Please forgive me.

On this report, I am going to report exhibitions and socializations done by my peers in Palembang Berkebun Community. Since I have joined this group for almost six months, I slowly start to learn members? characteristic. Most of them are very interested to agriculture, even there are undergraduates and postgraduates on it. It is very fantastic to learn from experts directly.

Members of Palembang Berkebun are not only engaged to plantation activities only, they also form another community called Hydroponics Group of Palembang. This group consists of people who are very keen on hydroponics plantation. They not only learn and develop their hydroponics methods, but only they have a spirit to spread the knowledge to society. So that is why, they often conduct exhibition in public area.

On Sunday, 21 March 2015, Hydroponics Group of Palembang conducted an agriculture technology exhibition in Kambang Iwak, a public park in Palembang. Hydroponics was the main focus of this exhibition. Some of vegetable varieties displayed on the occasion were lettuce (Lactuca sativa) and kangkung (Ipomoea aquatica). Many people showed their interest when they saw those vegetable on hydroponics media.

Then, let?s see a brief information about hydroponics. Hydroponics is agriculture technic which focus on how water is used to replace soil as media for plant. Due to liquidness of water, a soil place is needed to keep the water. The two vegetable mentioned above are one of famous varieties to be planted with hydroponics method. Especially for Kangkung (Ipomoea aquatica) which is basically can live on rivers or swamps. Hydroponics is one of solutions to plant in narrow area because hydroponics can save space.

Back to our main focus, this exhibition had fully attracted society and many of them were eager to learn more about hydroponics and try it at home. The exhibition was not over at that time, conducting this kind of event has been part of Hydroponics Group of Palembang. Meanwhile, Palembang Berkebun also often create similar exhibition with wider topics. This Saturday, Palembang Berkebun will teach elementary students how to plant sunflower in order to celebrate national education day on 2 May. Please wish us luck! Thanks a lot for your attention.
