Humans generate tons – billions of tons – of waste each year. At over 2.1 billion tons of municipal waste annually, the world has a significant waste problem. Most of this waste is transported to landfills, where it sits, decays, and releases a suite of environmental pollutants. We see tons of waste dumped in landfills in many parts of the world. Did you know that we can make huge profits from these useless wastes. Yes indeed. We produce valuable electricity and other resources from these waste products. Decomposing trash produces methane, a landfill gas that can be used to produce electricity or heat. The patented process involves capturing and recycling the gas that's produced from generating electricity with landfill methane. The gas can be used to heat the landfill and to provide additional moisture—conditions that can boost the landfill's overall methane production. Carbon dioxide found within the captured exhaust gas will also release additional methane once recycled within the landfill. Landfill gas is approximately forty to sixty percent methane, with the remainder being mostly carbon dioxide. The gases produced within a landfill can be collected or flared off. Once collected, the gas has several different pathways it can take. The landfill gas can be utilized directly on site by a boiler or any type of combustion system. This provides raw heat for processes. Electricity can also be generated on site through the use of micro turbines, steam turbines, or fuel cells. The landfill gas can also be sold off site and sent into natural gas pipelines. This requires the gas to be processed into pipeline quality by removing the water, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen and any other trace contaminants. Once in the general supply of natural gas, it can be used at power plants producing electricity or in home boilers. |
