Part 1. Deforestation is the common phenomena throughout the whole world and it threatening the existence of the human civilization while directly the only habitat of wild animals and plants. When we think of about the climate change, the pictures that instantly hit our mind are all those images of transportation/vehicles, industries and ice cap melting. But did you know( My jaws dropped too after knowing this fact), 'Deforestation' is more horrendous than all the vehicles/transportation at least for the climate change. Statistically, deforestation accounts for 17% of contribution in the climate change while transportation for 13%. This is from where the headache begins. We might have several regional/local, inter/national programs and plans and policies to decrease the deforestation rate, emphasize the importance of forest at ground level to the people around. Though the little progress can be seen we are still miles away from the achieving our noble goal. Finding out the reasons is necessary. But knowing some innovative methods and techniques are equally important if we want to seen the result quick. Part 2. Ever since the handset phones were developed, world have already made itself used to such phones. Just answer how many phones you have changed since your first one? The general life expentacy of mobile is 18 months and if you have the same set for a year, that?s great achievement. We eventually discard old one in the pursuit of finding the new one. But rarely we give second thought on how our such behaviour have affected our beloved earth, which has now become a dumping site of the tremendous amount of e-waste.( I would like to take reference to all those awesome and informative Ambassador report which encouraged me to search and rethink about the e-waste) Part 3 There one video that I went through while listening to the TED and title itself quickly catched my eyes. <Click here> for the link. In the video, the speaker talks about illegal logging and use of simple techniques using the technologies we already have. and its our old Phones. The method is really cool and is real time intervention. We use our cell phone ( charged by specially desigend solar power which are too made from the recycled products). The phone pick up the sounds of the chainsaw programmatically and send an alert ( email alert). Conclusion: So, its a win win situation where the old, discarded phone could be an excellent device in reducing the illegal logging while also managing the problem of the mobile wastes. Hence, the answer is ?YES?. |
