by | 21-03-2015 20:14

March 22 is World Water Day and there are many celebrations and events held worldwide. Gangnam district, located in the eastern south part of Seoul, hosts the Water Day celebration every year in which any citizen can participate. This year the Water Day celebration was held on March 20, at the Gangnam Citizen Center. Gangnam district is one of the districts in Seoul that have been in the front line and shown enthusiasm on environmental activities such as the stream restoration since 1995.

The Water Day celebration held every year is one of the things that shows Gangnam district's concern and interest in the environment. There are various opportunities where students can experience effective micro-organisms made out of used water from washing rice, CO2 saving pledge, aquatic plant presentation, making eco-friendly soap, etc., all prepared by environmental agencies. Many elementary and middle school students who are interested in water protection attended the celebration. One of the booths is ARISU (drinking water system in Seoul) where you can see the cute water-shape characters in the below picture. City of Seoul provides citizens drinking water that has been cleaned through the multi-filtering system.

While people are enjoying those experience, inside the hall was held a ceremony to award outstanding law-abiding citizens who made great efforts to protect and save water. By holding this event every year, Gangnam district always tries to inspire people to be aware of the importance of water resources and our natural environment.
