Waste Management & Recycling - Beeah?s Success Story in Sharjah

by Rohan Kapur | 12-03-2015 20:35

All of my UAE ambassadors must be aware of Beeah – Sharjah?s Leading Waste Management Company. I attended a lecture of the Emirates Environmental Group where the Managing Director – Waste Management Mr. Harbinder Singh gave a beautiful presentation of the success story of Beeah in waste management & Recycling.

For the benefit of my readers I wish to share the tremendous success achieved by Beeah in Waste Management & Recycling as conveyed by Mr. Harbinder Singh.

They are the only one Fully Integrated Environmental & Waste Management company in the region. They are constantly working to make Sharjah the First Arab city to achieve Zero-Waste to landfill. It was founded in 2007 with headquarters in Sharjah & operations across the UAE. They employ over 3,500 Employees, Serve over 1 Million Residents & Manage 6 Landfill sites.

They collect the waste from all over the UAE, Then they transfer the same to their sites, At the site The sorting & treatment of waste is done, subsequently waste is recycled, some of it is converted into Energy, Rest of it is disposed.

Beeah is proud to have the 3rd Largest Material Recovery facility in the world. They process a whooping 2,000 Tons Daily with a capacity of 600,000 Tons Per Annum.

Beeah has opened a state of the Art Waste Management Center in Sharjah where Bee?ah has successfully transformed a Landfill site into safe disposable site that represents entirely new approach to waste management in the region.

Beeah has built a sophisticated waste management infrastructure & facilities at Al Sajja, Sharjah for systematic segregation & waste processing into valuable resources including the Material Recovery Facility, the Tire Recycling Facility, Construction & Demolition Waste Recycling Facility and the Compost Plant amongst others.

Tyre Recycling: They are the only one Cryogenic recycling system in the Middle East with over 3 Million Tyres recycled annually.

Construction & Demolition Waste recycling: They have one of the world?s busiest facilities. 6,000 tons of Construction & Demolition Waste is processed daily.

Vehicle & Metal Recycling Facility: You will be amazed to know that in takes them 60 Seconds to recycle 1 car. 150 Cars are processed daily.

Besides, they have organic & waste composting plant as well.

They provide the infrastructure to enable source segregation like Office Recycling Bins, Residential Recycling Bins, Public Recycling Bins, School Recycling Bins, Industrial Recycling Bins, OCC recycling Cages, Reverse Vending machines.

Recently they have initiated Bee?ah School of Environment, which provides education for a greener generation.

They are very active on social media & they encourage participation of local population in promoting 3R?s. They are the role models for promoting sustainable living.

As Beeah has targeted 100% diversion of waste to Landfills [they have achieved 67% of the target already] and they targeted to recycle 50-60% of waste so collected, In this regard I posed a question to Mr. Harbinder Singh that what they have thought to do with the residue of the waste which is NOT recycled. He acknowledged this as a smart question & replied that they target to convert that into Hard Blocks for industrial use.

This was an important Lecture by Bee?ah & It is my duty to share the same with my friends at this forum.

Thanks for reading.
