![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Greeting from Indonesia. A week ago, youth, children, and local fisherman planted 150 mangroves around Ngurah Rai highway in south Bali. This place was chosen because thousands of mangroves were cut during the construction of highway. So, started at 09.00 a.m. they walked though the mud and planted the mangroves seed. Besides, they cleaned up the plantation area from any rubbish, especially plastic. The growth and development of these seed will be monitored every week by the local fisherman. This is vital to certain that the mangrove planted will alive and beneficial for nature.
Mangrove for Love is a mangrove conservation program as well as a collaborative movement toward green life style and climate change mitigation. This non-profit action was organized by youth volunteers and local fisherman. Dicky Hartono as coordinator of volunteer said that Mangrove for Love was funded by selling chocolates made by pidada fruit (mangrove fruit) whom produced by local communities. This program proves that mangrove do not only act in protecting coastal region from storm, tsunami, abrasion, sea live rise, etc but also capable to bring economic values without destructing the mangrove it self. Preserving mangrove will increase economic productivity for people around it. The meaning of mangrove conservation is love for our children and grand children. We want them to be able to enjoy the beauty and benefit of mangrove just like us now. The more we conserve the mangrove, the bigger our love for next generation. Do you agree? |
