The Depletion of Tropical Forest Resources with Focus on CAMEROON.

by | 21-02-2015 01:22

The tropical  rainforests are shrinking  at an alarming rates  because of  deforestation to create new agricultural lands or urban land,to provide wood for buiding and manufactering industries and there is little signs to realslow down  this destruction.

There an  is increase awareness in the world today on the importance and role  of tropical forest to the environment.Human activities such asintensive agriculture, masive deforestation and conservation of these resources and the use of peesticides are today s major threats  to global diversity calling for the need to sustainably manage them.

Sustainable  management means making useof the available resouces without compromising that available for the future. In Cameroon the perception  of these resource management differs among the variouscommunities.

Some look at natural resources in their vincinity as a gift of nature which needs to explioted without restrictions.

Otherscannot compromise theacquisition of wealth from the over expliotation of the resources and the environmental services that  that they benefit from prudent management of these resouces.

Most people are more involve with the present need than the need of the future generation, with beliefs that it cannot be destroyed.

As an advocate ,it is burden for me because forest and their biological wealth protect the soil from erosion, represent habitat of millions of species of plants and animals, help moderate the climate, provide thesupply of timber and food. The problem of forest depletion in the tropicsis no longer adebate, that is why we must act now.
