Gain Waste - Eco- Entrepreneurship
I came across this profitable, extremely interesting entrepreneurship effort, while at a start-up camp. This acts as an excellent combination of a kindled spirit of entrepreneurship coupled with concern and action for the environment. I hope this acts as a source of motivation for all of you guys out there, and comes around to encouraging such creative ideas.
Gain Waste Solutions was founded in 2012 in an effort to put an end to open dumping that is the common sight on the streets of India. With a commercial importance given to waste it would readily go to the recycling centres instead of lying in the garbage vat for ages. To make recycling viable they try their best to achieve segregation of waste, right at the source of that waste. Along with the conventional recycle they have also made an effort to integrate this with current scrap dealers so as to generate employment and scale up their social impact.
Here is how they describe their business model.
"Our main product is a clean environment. We tie up with local authorities to achieve that. The waste supplied by them is classified according to its density. As organic waste has the least density it is better recycled in the nearest vermicomposting plant. As paper waste is a little higher in density, it is to be recycled in the nearest recycled paper mill either by us or by our partners. Till now, other wastes are sorted and sent to the scrap dealers."
A part of what they offer is Kabadi-on-Call.
It is a garage sales - buying service. They partner with locals in your region and go to your door to buy all kinds of recyclable items other than food and garden waste. They can be informed by call or even through social media like facebook. This service has two goals:
To change the image of the typical kabadiwala by providing a reliable service and to effect in-source segregation of waste as much as possible.
