UAE TO EXTRACT WATER FROM HUMID AIR

by Neha Swaminathan | 09-02-2015 03:14

UAE Ministry of Environment and Water has signed an agreement to extract water from humid air. This will be used in the development of the agriculture sector. This move is part of the ministry's plan to use technological innovations and scientific research to conserve water sources. The domestic production cycle will help to enhance food safety and sustainability.

The Agricultural Innovation Centre has been opened recently by the ministry to keep pace with advanced technologies and systems to achieve sustainable development and enhance the efforts of the UAE agricultural sector. The establishment of the centre follows the National Innovation Strategy launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. UAE aims to be one of the most innovative countries in the world over the next seven years in many sectors including water.

The new agreement will help extract water from humid air in cooperation with Horien. The experiment will reduce the water scarcity and will promote alternative and sustainable solutions that are derived from natural sources. Its positive outcome will benefit the UAE?s agriculture sector by providing water for cultivation.

The experiments and research on agricultural technologies will be conducted to evaluate the efficiency and suitability of the UAE's natural conditions. After implementing this technology and demonstrating its effectiveness, training programmes will be conducted to bring awareness to the farmers.

The UAE atmosphere is very humid for many months during the summer and the water extraction technology is eagerly awaited.
