![]() ![]() MacQueen's bustard (Chlamydotis macqueenii) is a vulnerable bird species according to International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The bird is known as tiloor in local communities of Pakistan. Birds from the Northern populations migrate to the South of Pakistan in Western Balochistan during winter. This is the time when Saudi Prince Fahd bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz bin Saud visits Pakistan for hunting this rare species. The federal government of Pakistan issues permits to royal members of Arab countries for hunting. Last year in January, Prince Fahd hunted 2100 bustards during his 21-days safari in Balochistan. The Balochistan High Court cancelled all the permits for hunting by federal government a few weeks ago. The very fact that two advance parties of the Saudi Prince have already arrived at the hunting site speaks volumes that the Prince will be arriving soon and hunt all the Tiloors that he wants. Be it rare or endangered species. Who cares! If we have to follow all the laws when we visit their country, they must also respect our laws. Moreover when the law involves the ban of hunting a rare bird species, it must be respected being eco-centric. Our flora and fauna has its right to survive and thrive. The Saudis and the Gulf Royals must not be permitted to hunt for fun but they do not care. Moreover, the laws are for people with no muscles and the rich can get away with anything. Alas! Live and Let Live!
