In UAE nothing seems impossible even if it appears to be so, here always there is something that proves you wrong. Can you ever imagine more than 150 million flowers in a single garden situated in a semi-arid desert area? No. But you can at the Miracle Garden, the eco-tourist attraction in Dubai. Miracle Garden has the world record in Guinness Book of Records for having the longest wall of flowers. It is the world?s biggest flower garden with state of art landscaping features with special vertical and horizontal landscaping designs in each area of the garden. What really makes this a ?miracle? is that it has a positive impact on environment also. It reduces carbon print as it is all based on nature itself in comparison to other attractions that often depend on consuming natural resources. It demonstrates that, it?s possible to green the desert through judicious re-use of waste water. At the Miracle Garden, there are millions of blooming flowers in stunning designs, awesome shapes and structures, eye catching color combinations achieved through hundreds of different flower varieties and a splash of 60 vibrant colours. At present, there are 45 species of flowers in the garden, including petunias, marigolds, calendulas and so on which are shipped in from all around the world. Geraniums, Petunias, black velvet Petunia, have been planted for the first time in the UAE in this garden. They are in containers, hanging baskets, window boxes and pots that mix beautifully with annuals such as lobelia, vinca vine, petunias and verbena. I got in-depth knowledge on different varieties like the popular geraniums in the garden which belong to the genus Pelargonium and Petunias that occur in four distinct categories namely Groundcover Petunias, Grandiflora, Milliflora and Multiflora. The flower-covered hearts, giant peacocks, colorful Umbrella covered Pathways, the flower Falls, flower houses-an area consisting of giant flowerpots designed to give the impression that the flowers are pouring out of the pots, an oversized clock and an upside-down house, flower-decked vintage Cars,18-metre-high replica of the Burj Khalifa covered in flowers and a lake and fountain area featuring a giant tap with running water suspended in mid-air were some of the most memorable features of the garden. We can assume that it takes a fair amount of water to maintain 150 million flowers per day, but the garden has a positive effect on the environment as a whole. Isn?t it a miracle! I was curious to know how watering and maintenance is done in this huge area so I visited the garden and asked many questions to the maintenance personnel. He explained to me the positive impact of garden on environment, some points that I pinpointed, worth mentioning here are: The air in UAE is hotter so it helps in cooling the air and as sandstorm are also common in the region, the trees and flowers stop the sand. To facilitate efficient irrigation by conserving up to 75 per cent of water and power, capillary mats like doormats made with absorbent coconut fibre are used in the garden. I came to know that no buckets, no flowering cans, no sprinklers have been used in whole garden. For saving and easy watering of plants the underground drip line called the sub-surface irrigation is used in watering millions of blooming plants. The dripline system minimizes water vapour loss from the different parts of plant. Sub-surface irrigation also prevents evaporation, as water goes straight to the root of the plants. Water is further saved by eliminating the wind factor that would disperse droplets in directions away from plant roots. I got the opportunity to see rare aromatic and medicinal plants from around the world. In a nut shell, it was a wonderful experience. This tells us that although Dubai is a mega city with beautiful infrastructure, skyscrapers and various modes of transport, it is still a green, sustainable and eco-friendly city form the inside. Miracle Garden is a heaven no doubt where people can come and enjoy nature, floral smell and fresh air away from stale air of air conditioning and get to learn so much about the serene nature and its beauty. |
