Eco Workshop for School Kids

by | 02-02-2015 02:48

I have planned some workshops for school students. But due to some unavoidable reasons the date has been changed. Finally I had the chance to arrange a workshop on last Wednesday (28/01/2015) at Future Generation Int. School.

At the very early in the morning, I went to the school with my team. It was really not possible for a single person to organize a workshop. There were logistics to maintain, and participants (kids) to manage. I am very grateful to my friends who helped me that day organize the Eco workshop for kids. Shobuj Nogor (Green City) team was the resource partner of the event.

There were two sessions:

# Session 1: Class Play, Nursery, KG, Class 1 (Children aged 4-6)
# Session 2: Class 2- Class 8 (Children aged 7-12)

The first session was pretty tough to conduct as the kids were very small. They don?t understand what is Environment and the issues regarding ecosystem. We told them to compare their home in urban areas and home in village. Most of them like their home at village area. They said, there are kittens, baby chicks and duckling. There are lots of trees, greens and other natural thing in their village area. That's why they like their home in villages. We tried to make them understand that if you want your urban home be like your home in villages, you have to plant trees and not pollute your environment. All the session was taken very informally and it was more like story telling with kids.

The second session was interesting to me. There were young stars and brilliant students of grade 2-8 students. And they had lots of questions and queries about environment. In the second session for comparatively grown children, I discussed about Environmental Pollution, Global Warming, Climate Change and Ecosystem respectively.

The process of environment pollution and its effects in ecosystem was included in the content of the workshop. I described with the example of recent oil spill in Sundarbans (UNESCO World Heritage Site). I tried to cover how this incident can affect the eco system of Sundarbans. We put our efforts to aware them about the causes of global warming and how climate is changing day by day. The participants were told about the food cycle of the environment and how the eco system runs so nice naturally. Those little children were smart enough to understand the terms. The workshop was finished with Question and Answer session.
