Clean Up Sharjah-A well spent morning

by Rohan Kapur | 31-01-2015 18:11

Recently, I participated in the Clean Up Sharjah Campaign, organized by Abhinav Singla, an 11th Grader studying in Our Own English High School, Sharjah. This event was supported by Bee?ah and sponsored by Barakat Juices.

This event took place on 30th January, early in the morning, when around 50 participants of all ages, gathered and woke up to participate in this noble cause. This was done in a beautiful corniche of Sharjah, Al Khan Lagoon. This was the third Friday that this campaign was conducted. I wasn?t able to come for the first two Fridays, because I was extremely busy. However, this time I really enjoyed the same.

We started at 8:30 in the morning and walked the entire stretch, collecting garbage on our way, as we went. We were able to find hardly anything, because the people of UAE have become aware about not littering and the government spends on keeping the nation clean.

After the campaign was over, a van from Bee?ah?s ?You Call, We Haul? initiative, came and picked up all the garbage bags.  Complete with grip gloves and garbage bags, all the participants were ensured a safe and hygienic clean up!

There was a meeting point as the participants were divided into two groups to start from both ends at the corniche and meet at the middle. There was an exuberant street play organized by the girls of Our Own English High School, Girls Branch, which enlightened the world to raise their voice and join the revolution. A truly thought provoking, inspiring and motivating presentation by the girls. This street play was organized by Swathi Sanjay, an active member of Tunza Eco-Generation.

I was extremely happy to be a part of this and give a presentation about Tunza Eco-Generation at the end of it. This event went with the relevant motto, ?Take care of the earth and it will take care of you?
