![]() Climate change: increasing temperature, melting snow caps and glacier, global warming, greenhouse effect. Here I got an interesting topic to discuss. Grey leaf spot of maize: also known as climate change disease by the pathologists of the agriculture. This disease is cause by the cercospora zea maydis. Symptoms seen on corn include leaf lesions, discoloration (chlorosis), and foliar blight. The fungus survives in debris of topsoil and infects healthy crop via asexual spores called conidia. Environmental conditions that best suit infection and growth include moist, humid, and warm climates. Poor airflow, low sunlight, overcrowding, improper soil nutrient and irrigation management, and poor soil drainage can all contribute to the propagation of the disease. A reason for this disease to call climate change disease, few years back this disease was not a matter of concern in the Nepal but with increasing temperature now this disease has taken the epidemic in the mid hills of Nepal. This disease appears on the shrawan after the initiation of monsoon and with leaf wetness and increased temperature takes epidemic form and devastating damage in the maize. Along with new disease there is back ward motivation of disease like Bunt which has seen poorly with increasing temperature and seen poorly. Climate change has not only affected the just the air, temperature or snow caps its more than that. |
