![]() ![]() ![]() On November 20, 2014, San Pablo City Mayor, Honorable Amben Amante, called for a consultation to organize and approve the map plotting of the fishcages in Sampaloc Lake. This is a result of the first meeting in December 2013 where stakeholders of the lakes came together to discuss the rezoning of the fishcages in Sampaloc Lake. There were three different proposals at that time and after some discussions, the group accepted the proposal of the fisherfolk. The consultation in November 2014 was organized through the efforts of Dr. Lope Calanog, Consultant for the Tourism Master Plan and the City Historical, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office and the City Information Office of San Pablo City. During the discussion, the part of Sampaloc Lake which is allotted to the fishcages was divided into four clusters. The first cluster will have 54 fishcages, the second cluster with 30 fishcages, the third with 54 fishcages and the fourth cluster with 22 fishcages. The 160 fishcages are from 100-600 square meters. During the meeting, the fisherfolk requested that there will be 15 meters between each of the fishcages. However, the according to the Laguna Lake Development Authority, there should only be 5-10 meters between the fishcages. The City Mayor set the limit of space between fishcages to only 10 meters. The City Mayor is keen on rezoning so that the fishcages can be on one side of the lake and the rest of the lake can be used for other tourism adventure activities such as a zipline over the lake. The Tourism Master Plan has been in discussion for over a year now and is strong on Eco-Tourism. source: Monday Mail, Vol XXXIII No. 9, December 1-7, 2014, San Pablo City |
