NIGERIA LAUNCHES CLIMATE CHANGE WEBSITE

by | 05-01-2015 09:01

The internet is fast becoming a global provider of solutions to man's most palpable challenges and countries all over the world through their governments, are using the opportunity which the internet affords  to engage their citizens on issues of both national and global concern as well as provide useful information on solutions to problems which threaten lives and people's properties, so to speak.

Climate Change is one of such issues which has  generated a lot of growing concern in the global community. Most developed countries have found a way to educate their literate citizens and indeed other residents on what exactly climate change is all about, its causes and more importantly, man's roles in ending the occurrence of climate change.

Little wonder hence, that in the United States of America for instance, there is a functional website www.epa.gov/climatechange/wycd which ensures that people are always adequately informed about climate change and what individuals, organizations  and governments need do in respect of it.

Unfortunately however, for a very long time in her history, Nigeria had no such online facility. For someone like me who enjoys researching extensively online, I was always disappointed and quite annoyed that my country despite her significant position in Africa, could not meet up with the pace of the fast moving world in an age of rapid development enabled partly by technology and indeed the internet.

A lot of time when I needed to make presentations or speak at seminars on climate change in Nigeria, I would have to read foreign resources as there were no adequately satisfactory local e-content provided by my country's Ministry of Environment.

Fortunately, by a sudden twist of events, I was online of recent to research a topic on climate change in Nigeria only for me to stumble upon a very delightful information. Nigeria now has a website for climate change!  I couldn't stifle my joy as I jumped up in gladness and went straight to the website to check its contents.

Believe me, it is actually a standard website with all the necessary pieces of information one would need at least when climate change in Nigeria is the issue.

Ladies and Gentlemen, let me formally present to you, Nigeria's official website for climate change: www.climatechange.gov.ng

Thank you.
