Hydroponics

by | 26-11-2014 15:43

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil. Instead it uses substitutes of soil like gravel, pebbles, bricks etc. Plants only absorb the ions of energy in the water which is in the soil. If those ions of energy are dissolved in water then the plant does not need soil. It is a very efficient way of cultivating crops.

Hydroponics conserves a lot of water. The water in a hydroponics system is reused continuously. It uses about 1/10th of the water used in soil cultivation. It also uses lesser space and gives a higher yield. In a farm, a farmer has to plough and weed the soil. Hydroponics saves him that pain. The initial setting up of a hydroponic system can be expensive but the high yields, water and nutrient conservation and relief from soil related issues covers up for it.

It is a green alternative to conventional farming and I hope all of us promote and encourage the idea. The photo given below is a chilli plant grown by me using hydroponics.
