Coral Adoption, Birukan laut

by | 20-11-2014 14:38

Last October, Earth Hour Denpasar in collaboration with local divers in Tulamben, Bali held a program called Coral Adoption, Birukan Laut. The "Birukan Laut" means let?s go blue.  This program successfully gained national attention and they got more than 80 adopters with 100 baby corals (Acropora sp) to be planted. The adopters came from around Indonesia. They got the information from social media. What benefit did the adopter get beside their baby coral? They got under sea documentation with heir name on the baby coral, geotagging, e-certificate dan three-monthly report of their coral development. Dive guides around Tulamben fully support Coral Adoption because  it both protect the ecosystem and attract tourist at the same time.

This program is based on a concept called "Blue Carbon". It is a type of contribution to reduce carbon emission on earth.  The concept was raised by UNEP Goverment Council / Global Ministerial Environment Forum in Nusa Dua, Bali.

The Coral Adoption, Birukan Laut is going to be held at least once a year because Earth Hour Denpasar and environment activists in Bali want to spread environment awareness to all people. It is a small action but if is done together, it will give a huge impact to environment. Let's go blue!
