![]() Attempt for Guinness World Record - More than just a record June 2 is celebrated as the Social Forestry Day. People in Bhutan celebrate the day by reforestation and afforestation. School going kids, government officials and communities are engaged in the program. In just over a decade, there were 200,000 trees planted all over Bhutan. The day still continues today. Next year, on 2 June, 2015 in coinciding the 60th Birth Anniversary of the Fourth King of Bhutan, Mass Tree Plantation (A Guinness World Record Attempt) will be held somewhere in a region in Bhutan. Hundreds and hundreds of saplings will be planted and the world will observe what this small nation will do. Everybody is excited for the grand event and more to come is the participants who will be participating in the event. But this is more than just a World Record attempt. Indeed an exemplary initiative by Bhutan. But it is more than just a World Record Attempt. The Mass Tree Plantation signifies the attention that the ecosystem needs from the world today. The air pollution being the harsh one. And there is no turning back to what has already happened. But there is hope in cooperation and there are hopes in innovation. Togetherness is all we can do and the solution I can perceive for the moment. I hope you pack your bags and come to this tiny nation and be a part of this moment. Remember the power of a tree from the movie, A Thousand Words |
