![]() ![]() The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), which is the main agency in protecting and conserving the natural resources in our country, and the Divine Word College of Calapan (DWCC) launched on Friday the Bangklase: Klase sa Bangka, Ibang Klase project (BANGKLASE which sounds like Extraordinarily extravagant: Class in a boat). It is a unique way to inspire nature-based approach to environmental education using as classroom the 8,125-hectare Naujan Lake in Oriental Mindoro province.- DENR website DENR Secretary Ramon J.P. Paje established and agreed this project regarding education for the youth as well as environmental awareness. He stated that BAGKLASE breathes new life to government efforts to inspire deeper and wider interest in Philippine environmentalism. He also added that under this innovative project, students are taught within the context of actual experience, an opportunity missed when taught in a conventional classroom setting. This new innovative project is an educational shipboard, carrying up to 150 people, which promotes environmental education, eco-tourism development and public awareness of the lake preservation/protection and biodiversity conservation, specifically the Naujan Lake and the species inside The lake was said to be under the provision and authority of the government- National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) pursuant to the NIPAS Act of 1992 or Republic Act 7586. Due to its high biodiversity and rich endemism, it is already protected under the supervision and management of the Local Government Unit. |
