Recyling Competition

by | 04-11-2014 00:22

In celebration of the success of 30% reduction in energy consumption in my school, the members of the Events Commitee and I held the Annual Recycling competition. Winners were to receive prizes included the souvenirs from Tunza Eco-generation, such as post-it-notes and pens.

This competition is conducted every year to spark environmental conversations amongst students and with the hope that with this initiative, students, teachers, and parents can learn not only the basics of recycling, but of sustainability and environmental stewardship. In this year's competition, more than half of the faculties participated.

The students were invited to design an art piece or a new device using recycled materials. Winners were chosen based on several criteria, including overall impression, innovation, proportion of recycled materials used in design, neatness of presentation and delivery of the recycling message.

The first winner of the Recycling Competition was given to a group that constructed a toy car using the most optimum recycled materials. The design of the cover was made out of Coca-Cola skin and ring polls, the wheel was made out of bottle caps, and the body was made out of unused wood boxes. This toy car was later donated to the Philippines local students.

The second place was given to a group that produced a creative 3-D art piece only using plastic bags, and cracker box. Those materials were cut into small pieces and combined together and created a globe.

The Recycling Competition has successfully ended and will continue to be held every year. Through this event I realized that huge changes begin with small efforts and without slight effort, nothing can be achieved.
