Last weekend, on 31-Oct-14, a Rangoli showcase was organized in Dubai on the auspicious occasion of Diwali festival. Rangoli is a folk art from India in which patterns are created on the floor in living rooms or courtyards using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand or flower petals.
They are meant to be sacred welcoming areas for the guests & relatives. The ancient symbols have been passed on through the ages, from each generation to the next, thus keeping both the art form & the tradition alive. This time the theme of the showcase was Conserve Environment.
The participants were expected to create patterns depicting their concern for environment & to showcase their respective talents accordingly. This was an exciting opportunity for me to spread the message of conserving environment through the medium of Art. I formed a team of my family friends & joined this celebration.
The showcase was a thoroughly planned event. The Rangoli was to be made on Floor. They fixed 4X4 sheet of paper on the floor & instructed us to keep the surroundings tidy as the space was to be handed over clean to the authorities after the event. All pattern were to be made on the sheet only.
There were 21 participants and I found all very creative with the idea of conserve environment. I used colored sand and recycled CDs to make an image of a Peacock. We painted the CDs with water colors, decorated them & made our presentation.
When the Rangoli patterns were ready, the area was opened to the public. Hundreds of people have gathered to look at the beautiful art work with messages about conserving environment written in various artistic ways. People used rice, flowers, disposable spoons, Tree leaves, Earthen Lamps, etc. The messages depicted were: Save Earth, Say No to Plastics, Reduce. Reuse, Recycle, Each Drop Matters, Reduce Pollution, Go Green Keep Clean, Plant Trees. The shapes were different, ideas were unique but the crux of the message was one.
This proved, once again, that people of UAE are environmentally aware & conscious of taking care of mother earth.
By the medium of Tunza Eco-Generation I am sharing an excellent creation of art by UAE with the message of Conserve Environment.
