Puruskar Award Received at National Level (in India) by a UAE student shortlisted as Best Student

Last Week I received the National Level Award in India, Puruskar Award- mobilizing young people for environmental awareness activities. The campaign that helped garner interest in my work and I showcased this work at several global forums.  I was short listed as the Best Student Award category for Paryavaran Mitra 2013 at National level.

A successful Exhibition and the Award Ceremony held in Ahmedabad aimed to appreciate and acknowledge good work not only to motivate the doer but also for provide an opportunity to learn.  The event was organized by Centre for Environment Education (CEE), beautifully built on a natural sand dune.

A total of about 2500 schools responded and submitted their entries in school, teacher and student categories. Through a long process of scrutiny at state level by experts in the field of education and environment that included government officials, 96 schools, 65 teachers and 57 students were nominated for the national level Puraskar.  A National Committee comprising of eminent experts in the field of education, environmental education, and environmental solutions shortlisted 15 schools, 14 teachers and 15 students for the Paryavaran Mitra Puraskar.

Present at the Award Ceremony were some legends of the environment including Dr. Ashok Khosla, Chairman, Development Alternatives Former Director, UNEP and Former President IUCN, Dr. G V Subrahmanyam, Advisor, Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change and Shri Kartikeya V. Sarabhai, Director, Centre for Environment Education
