I recently saw the process of wrapping last 3 days when I went to Suvarnabhumi airport to send my sister off to the science competition in Indonesia. I thought the whole plastic-wrapping process for security is a kind of wasting your money and more importantly, our environment. When people reach their destination and unwrap their luggage, they will dump these plastic away. This is a huge waste of resource. Also, it can be lethal to organism and create pollution. PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic doesn?t decompose easily in the landfill. Plastic takes several years to degrade or some of them are not degradable at all since bacteria can?t and won?t decompose plastic. Plastic chemical bond molecule is very long therefore it will stay where you dump them forever and keep emitting out toxic chemicals. Those chemicals refer to BPA (Bisphenol A) and PS oligarmer. Throwing away plastic is like planting poison on yourself. The result and all chemicals restored in environment will affect human?s health and wellness. Moreover, if plastic get into the marine eco-system, it will end up in the gut of fish or sea turtles. Plastic can kill these poor organisms by poisoning them. Some people get rid of plastic by burning it, but that is still not the right way. Burnt plastic can give out carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and fluorine compounds which can pollute the air. The plastic industrial emit those gases, too. At the end of the day, plastic is not so fantastic at all.

     For the example of luggage-wrapping I brought up at the beginning, the service increases the use of plastic. I don?t think it is the right way to serve the purpose of just locking up the passengers? bags. To add in security to your individual life doesn?t mean that you should invade the others. Deciding to use baggage wrapper may be good for yourself, but not for the environment. Some people may be relieved to see their baggage neatly wrapped and protected. But if our environment is polluted, every single person will be affected. So, instead of providing excessive plastic service, do it in the way that don?t hurt environment. The airport should either improve their security system to prevent the criminal form walking in or at least provide degradable eco-friendly plastic instead of cheap and harmful ones. This plastic issue may not sound so much like a big deal, but its harmful effect can ruin the whole world. So, if we can help reduce the use of plastic wrapper in the airport, our action can help the whole world too!

     Plastic-making process emits pollution, plastic give out dangerous chemicals, plastic can get stuck in animals? gut and kill them?come to think about it?plastic is quite troublesome, isn?t it? Plastic may be useful in some ways, but after using it, please make sure you get rid of it properly. Recycle is quite a good idea to get rid of plastic waste and create another useful thing. But it may be hard to get creative with torn pieces of plastic sheet, I know. So, I suggest reducing the use of plastic so less pollution will be created. You may use fabric bag instead of plastic bag when shopping. Returning plastic bottle to the factory for recycle is another way to redude the use of plastic. Make some diy projects from plastic is also a good idea. The list goes on forever! We can help the world if we do these things together. It?s a small step but the result can be dramatic if every individual participates and does his/her part. Let?s do this together!
