In this report I will talk about a great work and a Youth Initiatives has been established in Sana'a , Yemen by a group of young people .

Under the Theme of "We blow whistles, brighten minds, and we are creative!" and between 18 - 30 of September 2014, 100+ volunteers have joined the #JustEco team to clean up the old city and raise awareness on the piling up trash and its danger!

There were ten teams which spread across the markets and gardens of Old Sana'a. These teams did trash collection in big black trash bags, surveyed and talked to locals and ecobricked!
More than 50 trash bags were filled!
More than 50 people were surveyed!
Tens of locals joined the cleaning up phase!
More than 30 ecobricks were stuffed!

This campaign was designed to tackle the issue of solid pollution in Old Sana'a, as it is our number one monumental and authentic city that has survived for thousands of Years. they aims by this campaign to raise awareness as well as they wants Old Sana'a to be waste-free and able to manage its solid waste efficiently and quickly.

#JustEco team help to manage the city waste via the concept of Eco-brick, which is  a two liter plastic bottle that is stuffed and compressed with dry unrecoverable plastic waste.

This is a form of up-cycling, where later on the stuffed eco-bricks are used in construction of buildings, chairs, bins and many other creative designs. One Eco-brick can contain up to 400 plastic bags!

Just-Eco did produced trash bins for the Old City out of these Eco-bricks and place them in waste-potential areas and corners.
They  also involve many of the local youth and kids to have them participate in the campaign and spread awareness among their families.

The #JustEco's Volunteers roles was as following :
-Collecting and bringing trashed/wasted empty plastic bottles.
-Stuffing these empty eco-bricks with trash in the Old City.
-Reaching out to locals to participate and spread awareness.
-Designing trash bins.

** The old city of Sana'a, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has a distinctive visual character due to its unique architectural characteristics, most notably expressed in its multi-storey buildings decorated with geometric patterns. It is also one of the highest capital cities in the world. Sana'a has a population of approximately 1,937,500 (2012), making it Yemen's largest city.
