My Road My Responsibility

by | 30-09-2014 10:39

In Dhaka City 7.001 million (2008) people live within 815 square kilometer. The density of the population is too high. There is certain authority to look after the city. It is really tough for Dhaka City Corporation to maintain things properly. They are not technically sound, they also don't have enough skilled human resource that can uphold city image. There are lots of traffic in the road, they almost fail to maintain traffic on the road. There are sweepers who clean the road, but as a large number of population use the roads it?s definitely a hard job to keep them neat and clean.

Sometimes people dump wastage on the road. Most of the time it happens due to lack of awareness and responsibility. Sometimes it?s because of lack of enough dustbin around. But there is always hope. Hope for a better world. Volunteer for Bangladesh, the largest voluntary organization in Bangladesh initiated a project called ?My Road My Responsibility? on 27th September. This project was to raise awareness about keeping roads neat and clean.

A group of fifty volunteers chose an area to clean the roads. Volunteers gather early morning at 6 am at Dhanmondi-27 (area). Their main focus was to create awareness among the passersby. Volunteers motivated them for not dumping wastage on the road. Afiat Maisha an active VBD member said, ?We should not dump our waste on the road, this harms our environment and gives a bad impression to the world.? Yes, she was right. Dumping wastage in an open space creates harmful bacteria that is dangerous for human health.
