[PROJECT] Proper E-Waste Management

by | 24-09-2014 20:31

One summer evening I read an article about the impact on environment from E-Waste. I was shocked when i read that chemical substance from ONE computer is enough to pollute BILLIONS of leters of water.
And Sri Lankans put out 1000s of tons of e-waste with toxic materials.

Something had to be done..
Without complaining around, I decided to make a change by myself.
With some fellow volunteers, I planned a pilot project. The concept was to collect old computers from homes/offices, repair them and donate them to underprivileged children.
In this way, the impact goes in 2 ways.
1. It reduces electronic waste.
2. It improves the IT literacy level of underprivileged children.

So the plan is to partner up with an organisation who can repair and refurbish our computers. And then, contact NGOs who are helping underprivileged children and donate the computers to them.

What do you guys think of this project concept? Is there anything to change so that I will be more successful ? Please post comments below.
I am planning to implement this by the end of next month.
