UN CLIMATE SUMMIT IN NEW YORK: FOOD CONSUMPTION A MUST ADDRESS SUBJECT.by | 18-09-2014 14:20 |

![]() Fifth IPPC Report indicates-Without more mitigation, global mean surface temperature might increase by 3.7?to 4.8?over the 21st century. As the world's Leaders are preparing to hold talks on climate change next week, so too has researchers continued to dig into what is it in human behaviors that contributes the close to 90% to Global warming. On the 1st of September UK based researchers in London Highlighted eating less meat or heavy diets is a vital part of tackling climate change. Their study says that on present trends food production on its own will reach - and perhaps exceed - the global targets for total greenhouse gas emissions in 2050. The scientists have a strong hold that eating less complex food like steak can enable us reduce deforestation, power consumption and above all industrial expansion. Bojana Bajzelj is one of the researchers from the University of Cambridge?s department of engineering, who wrote the study with colleagues from Cambridge's departments of geography and plant sciences and the University of Aberdeen's Institute of Biological and Environmental Sciences. He underlines: the lesser we eat heavy western diets- Cheese and dairy, the lesser the usage of the land, deforestation and GHG emissions. They indicated that if drastic action is not taken, the cropland will expand by 42% by 2050 and fertilizer use by 45%. A further tenth of the world?s pristine tropical forests would disappear by mid-century. This had earlier been emphasized by WWF?s Director General, Jim Leape in two of WWF?s leaving planet reports in 2012, Annual Review. He said, ?We are using 50% more resources than the earth can provide?? The leading conservation organization warns us that it takes 1.5 years for the earth to reconstitute all what we squander in a year. Science will also remember that in the same documents WWF produced in 2012, the president of WWF International, Yolande Kakabadse, pointed out to people 43% of all canned food unbelievably goes to waste unopened. This is not the first time scientists and science organizations are sounding a heavy warning into the ears of people. Now let's see what will happen in New York after all these warnings for change. |
