Taxus wallichiana

Taxus wallichiana is also known as Himalayan yew which belongs to the family Taxaceae.It is a medium-sized tree especially found in the Himalayan region of Nepal. The leaves are thin, flat, and sickle-shaped. People use these plants as traditional medicine, Timber, Construction material, fences, and fodder for cattle. Additionally, it has been used as a medicine for treating a common cold, cough, fevers, jaundice, respiratory infections, indigestion, etc. Mainly the leaves of plants are used during the treatment of different diseases. Different research shows that Taxol, the anticancer drug can be extracted from the leaves and bark of this plant. The species is classified as endangered species by IUCN. We should focus on the conservation of such a valuable medicinal plant that play important role in livelihood improvement.
