The existence of the social media is driving home a new change in our society. These changes have been quite instrumental in our drive and attainment of great results. In May 2014, Forum for the development of Young People launched its Whatsapp group with the caption- YOUTH ARISE FOR SOCIAL CHANGE. The essence of this group is to teach, inspire and mentor some of our colleagues as instruments of social change for the good of all. Through this Whatsapp group, we worked on the Mamaye drive to use the technology to help our pregnant mothers and girls to reduce maternal mortality in the country. This was a tremendous success, as we signed petitions with this technology and also use this documents to lure public figures to make policies that might be of tremendous benefit in that drive. At the moment, we are using this Whatsapp group to inspire our colleagues in the Ebola-prone areas to report cases of concern for the rapid and swift treatment. This is because Ebola is a killer disease that has claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people within the West African sub-region. Through this medium, we have reported a total of 50 cases in Kailahun and Kenema that have been treated promptly to eradicate the spread of this disease. In conclusion, we are the change that our society wants and if we change our thinking, then we will get the result that we want. We are the world and the future is bright when we use modern technology to address social problems. This is what is required of us all.  |
